You deserve to get unbiased and honest help getting an abortion. Unfortunately, there are many organizations—known as “crisis pregnancy centers” (CPCs) or fake clinics—that pretend to offer abortion or “options counseling.” Their real goal is to talk you out of having an abortion, not to help you make the best decision for yourself.
You won’t find CPC’s here because every clinic on ineedana.com has been verified.
How do crisis pregnancy centers mislead people?
In many states, there are more crisis pregnancy centers than abortion clinics. Fake clinics often:
- Advertise free ultrasounds, diapers, or financial help to draw people in
- Claim to offer “post-pregnancy support” but refuse to provide abortions or referrals
- Buy Google ads to appear above legitimate abortion providers in search results
Tip: In states that require ultrasounds before abortions like in Arizona or Florida, the ultrasound must happen at the same clinic where the abortion is performed. So, if a clinic says you can get an ultrasound but not an abortion, it’s likely a fake clinic.
Many of these fake clinics are funded with state tax dollars but are not regulated by any medical institutions. Staff may not be licensed medical professionals, and their information can be inaccurate or misleading. Because they are not covered by HIPAA, your personal and medical information is not protected and could be shared without your consent.

How do I know if I went to a fake clinic?
Fake clinics often:
- Offer free ultrasounds but no abortion services
- Encourage or require “counseling” with religious or judgmental tones
- Make incorrect claims like “abortion increases your risk of breast cancer” (it’s not linked to breast cancer) or “getting an abortion can lead to infertility” (again, it doesn’t. Abortion is very safe!)
- Present adoption as the “best” or only alternative
- Offer money, diapers, or baby items if you continue the pregnancy
- Call repeatedly after your visit asking you to return

Quick Facts
- Pregnancy can be dated by your last menstrual period (LMP) — learn more.
- Medication abortion is safe and can be started as soon as you get a positive pregnancy test (you don’t need an ultrasound).
- If you are getting an in-clinic procedural abortion, they will do the ultrasound there in the clinic.
